VISIT ASSISI
Assisi is a must-see destination
Assisi is an Umbrian jewel delicately nestled on the slopes of Mount Subasio. Protected by an imposing city wall, the town retains the characteristics of a typical Umbrian village. It is dominated by two of its wonders, the great Basilica of St. Francis and the massive Rocca Maggiore fortress.
Famous for being the birthplace of St Francis, Assisi conveys peace and tranquillity and is the ideal destination for a slow holiday. In fact, the city can be visited in a day, in a hurry, or savoured calmly, on foot, walking along its narrow, winding streets on which splendid palaces and panoramic terraces open onto the green Umbrian sea. And if you love walking, you can stroll through the Bosco di San Francesco (St. Francis' Wood), which, among fields and olive groves, connects the Basilica of St. Francis to the church of Santa Croce, just 500 m from Casale Santa Margherita.
Assisi, with its historic centre and its iconic monuments, became a UNESCO site in 2000 because it is considered a rare example of historical continuity between the city, its cultural landscape and the territorial system as a whole. Moreover, since the Middle Ages, it has been closely associated with the cult and spread of the Franciscan movement, which carries an important universal message of peace and tolerance throughout the world.
Because of its location, Assisi is the ideal place to book your holiday home. From here it will be easy to visit all of Umbria with day trips. You will easily reach the most famous art cities such as Spoleto, Perugia, Gubbio, Todi and Orvieto as well as the small villages of Spello, Trevi, Bevagna, Montefalco, Rasiglia, ...
